Acknowledge the people you meet throughout your days

Acknowledge the people you meet throughout your days. These small acts of kindness are sparks of connection we all deserve and need.

On my daily walk around my development each morning I have a ritual I enjoy.

As a member of our community of 280 households, I like to acknowledge the other walkers and drivers passing by with a hello or a wave.

This small gesture often brings many a smile and waves back. Allen, a member of our group, carries dog biscuits for our canine friends who always seem happy to see us.

EXERCISE:

How often do you acknowledge the people you meet throughout your days?

How often do you receive such greetings from others?

How might an extra helping of these daily gestures lift everyone’s spirits just a little bit higher?

Adam Grant’s book, Give and Take, is one of my favorites. If you have yet to read it, today’s quote could be one of the top nuggets to summarize its wisdom.

Through his extensive research of givers, takers, and matchers, it’s the givers of the world who seem to lead the most richly rewarding lives.

Perhaps the best way to show our appreciation of the generosity of others is simply to acknowledge it.

EXERCISE:

I hope you will take Adam’s advice and give the generous people in your life your sincere appreciation for their many gifts.

Most evenings my wife Wendy and I watch the ABC nightly news with David Muir to get our update on world events. The final segment, America Strong, is usually uplifting, with selected individuals or groups demonstrating their compassion, empathy, and generosity to others in their communities.

A wonderful result of these examples of giving is how happy and satisfied all parties are through these exchanges.

EXERCISE:

Who are the most generous givers in your communities? How can and will you acknowledge and give a part of your self back to these special folks. Don’t be surprised if doing so leaves behind a sweet, satisfying feeling in you.

the potency of praise

“There is no verbal vitamin more potent than praise.”

How high of a priority is your health?

What are your daily habits related to exercise, nutrition, and your overall well-being? Do you eat any of the super-foods identified in my post titled You Are What You Eat? How about your use of supplements and a multivitamin to keep all things working optimally?

When it comes to quality relationships and supporting others in pursuing and being their very best, praise packs a potent level of empowerment.

EXERCISE:

Where and with whom would it be most deserved, or make the biggest difference, to offer far more praise and acknowledgement of others in your worlds?
